Mornington
Dec. 29th
Departed much later than expected, in part because Jim was going to watch one of the horses in a barrier trial at Mornington and would not be home until after 11:30, and partly because we underestimated the amount of time needed to set up the house for Lois and Vincent. From all reports the horse did well but we forgot to leave the fridge doors open! We said our farewells, dropped Taz with Ron and Di, pleased that she would be very well cared for but sad that we were leaving her, then made it up to Eildon around 5pm. The views from the deck were truly beautiful and Sharren and Andrew have made a great choice to spend their time with the rosellas, cockatoos and king parrots.
Eildon
Dec. 30th
Day 1 of our sea change! Woke to glorious sun, cicadas, cockatoos and glorious lake views. The dam was at 75% capacity, which was wonderful to see after all the years of drought. A trip in the speedboat with Andrew took us across to the boat club and coffee on the deck. After our return and a late lunch, we headed into Alexandra to buy some provisions then returned to house where we sat on the deck until late, enjoyed spit-roasted pork and wondered if life could be any better than that!
Eildon - Tallangatta
Dec 31st
Another sunny morning after another mozzie-filled night in the van. Some problems as the house battery was not holding the charge so after some discussion Graeme and Andrew decided that perhaps the battery was not large enough to keep the fridge going all night in the heat.
Once again enjoyed the beautiful views across the Eildon Weir and watched the jet ski and water-skiing crew at play, including Luke and Leah, while a family of ducks paddled around in the foreground.
A total fire ban day, the temperature was around 35 and the wind was rising when we left Taylor Bay and the wonderful hospitality of the Dredges. We all liked the idea of ending our journey here in 12 months time!
We loved driving through the rolling hills and river flats from Alexandra to Euroa then north through Wangaratta and along Lake Hume to Tallangatta –water, water everywhere was a joy to behold as were the white egrets and ibis. Our camp site on the Mitta Mitta River, although filled with other campers, was very pretty and sitting in the water, reading a book, was not hard to endure J
